Caylee Hammack isn’t exactly a new kid on the block. While she’s a relatively recent (October 2016) Universal Music signee, she has been around the country music scene since the age of 13, most recently writing songs for top Nashville talent. Caylee’s writing prowess earned her ASCAP’s Sammy Chan award for lyricism and, since her 2013 move to the Music City, she has increasingly shown off her own booming voice as well.
As we inch closer to Caylee’s July 13 Smokeout set, we dished about brisket, beverages, and summer anthems with the singer-songwriter.
1. Favorite BBQ
My all-time favorite? It’s a hard tie between BBQ brisket and dry rub ribs!
2. First country music concert
When I was 13, I begged my dad to take me to the Columbus Civic Center in Columbus, GA to see Loretta Lynn. I still have the signed CD case in my room back home in Georgia! I love Loretta. That concert marks the beginning of my love of country music
3. What song are you most excited to perform this summer?
I am most excited about performing “Family Tree.” I love any song that people can easily sing-along to, and that’s the one from the setlist that people can get down to, even if they have never heard it before.
4. What artist(s) are you most excited to see at the Smokeout?
I love the Brothers, so when Brothers Osborne play, I will be dancing somewhere close to the stage if possible! I’m excited to see some of my friends play because I have never seen them perform with their full band. Especially Troy Cartwright and Jacob Powell.
5. What’s on your summer playlist?
“Lottery” by Jade Bird
“Yada Yada Yada” by Brandon Lay
“Mine” by Bazzi
“F*uck a Bomb” by Republican Hair
“High Horse” by Kacey Musgraves
Caylee will be rocking summer anthems of her own on July 13! Check out the rest of the performers here.
